Dr. McGlennen: Tell me how you were introduced to OralDNA® salivary diagnostics.
Alex Vasserman DMD: I learned about the OralDNA® labs testing system through Doug Thompson, DDS at the Kois Center. Our hygiene department started using it 3 years ago, and they have made it a success.
Dr. McGlennen: What are the top two things to consider when you select a patient for testing?
Alex Vasserman DMD: Compliance is key- will the patient follow through with the prescribed treatment and what are the clinical signs and symptoms we are trying to resolve.
Dr. McGlennen: What are the biggest benefits to using salivary diagnostics?
Alex Vasserman DMD: It gives us the data as it relates to treatment. It is no longer just cleaning vs deep cleaning.
Dr. McGlennen: What is your favorite part of the MyPerioPath® results? Why?
Alex Vasserman DMD: Our team has transformed. They are all involved in treating patients’ oral health. Our hygienist went from just doing cleanings and diagnosis, to comprehensive treatment that’s data driven.
Dr. McGlennen: How do your patients respond to this technology? What is their #1 question?
Alex Vasserman DMD: Patients are interested. First question is how much does this cost, and then how long to get the results. Both are very good questions when they are asked.
Dr. McGlennen: What is your biggest challenge? How do you overcome that obstacle?
Alex Vasserman DMD: The Patient Education. However, using the pamphlets and sample tests helps. Most patients understand that we’re not just doing a cleaning and that the test is important for us to effectively treat.
Dr. McGlennen: If a new OralDNA® provider were to ask you for advice, what would be your best tip?
Alex Vasserman DMD: Get your team involved. Having your team excited about diagnosis, treatment, and oral health improvement is a key to success.
